JOINING US ONSTAGE IN CAPE TOWN:
PRASHANTAN MOODLEY is Microsoft’s HR Director for West East and Central Africa and Indian Ocean Islands. He holds over 15 years of legal and HR experience across multiple industries including FMCG (Unilever Plc), global financial services (Barclays Bank) and technology (Microsoft). Prashantan’s experience spans various HR disciplines ranging from Business Strategy and Performance Improvement to Graduate Recruitment, Policy Formulation, and Restructuring. He also holds extensive business partnership experience, and has developed “best practice” change management programs that have been replicated and implemented globally. He was previously an HR Executive for Barclays Africa, and also worked in Malaysia supporting Unilever in crisis and change management, and in the Philippines business, crafting and executing their € 100 million Supply Chain Transformation project.
JULIA DYSSELL is currently the Head of Group HR at Sanlam Group. Julia reports directly to the CEO, and her role spans a number of operations, where she participates in remuneration and HR committees, as well as championing some aspects of talent in the Group. Prior to this she was the Head of HR at Santam, a role she held for 6 years. Prior to that, Julia’s career was a mix of HR corporate roles (primarily in SAB and AECI) and consulting, largely in the field of diversity and change management. She is a graduate of both UCT and the Wits Business School and recently had the privilege of attending the London Business School to be part of a week long programme on HR in Transforming Organisations. Julia is registered with the South African Board for People Practices and is also a member of ASISA, ensuring the Group’s contribution to sustainable business practices.
CELESTE BENNETT is Global Head of Talent at Engen, where she has been since 2008, also holding Business Partner and Centre of Excellence roles. Celeste’s HR career spans over 20 years, with experience in the motor, FMCG, defence and petroleum sectors. Her breadth of HR experience as a generalist has been critical in her transition into the world of Talent Management. Currently Celeste manages the development and implementation of a comprehensive talent management strategy across Engen, focusing on identifying critical positions, skills, key talent, succession planning and capability development of the top 250 leaders, mission critical positions and scarce skills. Celeste is passionate about her profession and the contribution it makes to achieving people transformation, as well as the overall transformation of South African society. She graduated from the University of Cape Town with a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Science in 1987.

TUMELO MOKWENA has been General Manager, Human Capital and Transnet Freight Rail since 2005, where he reports to the Chief Executive for the organisation’s human resources strategy. He has 13 years Senior Management experience across different HR disciplines result, with a strong track record in Operational Efficiencies, Organizational Restructuring,Employee Relations, Change Management, Recruitment and Selection and Compensation Management. Tumelo has worked in a highly unionized environment and has extensive experience fostering collegial relationships with trade unions. He previously worked for National Ports Authority as General Manager Corporate Services, and holds qualifications from INSEAD Paris and Vista University.
ITALIA BONINELLI’S most recent role was as Executive Vice President People and Organization Development at AngloGold Ashanti, which has 20 operations in 10 countries, employing over 60,000 people. Previously, she has held executive human resources positions at Gold Fields (mining, Netcare (healthcare) and was both HR Director and Marketing Director at Standard Bank (financial services). She is an industrial psychologist with a Masters in Psychology from the University of the Witwatersrand and a post-graduate diploma in labour relations from UNISA. She has lectured at various universities and business schools and has authored numerous publications. Boninelli has coached many executives and senior HR practitioners and is passionate about women’s development issues. She has received multiple awards including HR Director of the Year (Institute for People Management of South Africa, 2008) and SA’s Most Influential Woman in Business and Government award for the Mining Sector (2009).
ALAN HOSKING is the Publisher of HR Future magazine and has interviewed over 100 of the world’s top leadership and management gurus, including Dave Ulrich. Alan is a member of Henley Business School Africa’s Strategy Board, a member of the HRM Advisory Board of the University of Johannesburg, and a member of UNISA’s Talent Management Advisory Board. In 2011, Alan received a Meritorious Award from the Association of Mine Human Resource Practitioners for “outstanding contribution in service of the interests of the South African Mining Industry”. In 2012, he received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the SA Board for People Practices for “exceptional contribution to the HR profession”.
CHANTAL BUTLER is Head of Organisation Development at Woolworths, where she has been working since 1999, leading a function of over 300 people, in turn servicing 30,000 employees. She has 20 years of experience as an HR professional and leader, with key projects focusing on organisation effectiveness, development and remuneration. Chantal holds an MA in Psychology from UCT and an MBA from the USB, and is registered as a psychologist with the Health Professions Council of South Africa. She finds her purpose in the belief that everything we do should be about leaving the world a better place, and building a brighter future for the next generation. Outside of work, she is the proud mother of two children, and has a passion for music, art and theatre.
