Tom Peters
The Expert

“Attack every project you do with reckless enthusiasm and passionate commitment to excellence.”

About Tom Peters

Tom Peters is a writer on business management practices. Fortune called Tom Peters the “Ur-guru” of management and compares him to Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau, Walt Whitman and HL Mencken. The Economist tagged him the “Uber-guru” – and Business Week’s take on his unconventional views led them to label him “businesses best friend and worst nightmare.”

Leadership guru Warren Bennis, the only person close to both Peters and the late Peter Drucker, told a journalist, “If Peter Drucker invented modern management, Tom Peters repainted it in Technicolor.”

If not excellence – what? If not excellence now – when?

  • In particular with the publication of In Search of Excellence, Peters and Bob Waterman effectively introduced the world of business to the notion of Excellence per se, a state of mind and daily practice not normally associated with enterprise.
  • This was just the beginning of the unwavering pursuit of Excellence, from the finance department, to after sales service, in car dealerships, police departments, banks and factories creating a basis for unmatchable competitive advantage.

With well over a dozen additional international business best sellers, these include:

  • A Passion for Excellence
  • Thriving on Chaos
  • Liberation Management
  • Circle of Innovation
  • Re-imagine!

Tom Peters Book List

Bloomsbury Press Book reviewed the contributions of path-breaking management thinkers and practitioners including Machiavelli, JP Morgan and Jack Welch. Here is their entry on Peters:

Tom Peters has probably done more than anyone else to shift the debate on management from the confines of boardrooms, academia and consultancies to a broader, worldwide audience where it becomes the staple diet of the media and managers alike. Peter Drucker has written more and his ideas have withstood a longer test of time, but it is Peters – as consultant, writer, columnist, seminar lecturer and stage performer – whose energy, style, influence, and ideas have shaped new management thinking.

Testimonials

Have enjoyed the time to absorb some innovative and challenging thinking about management practices. Tom is an inspiring and thought provoking speaker.
Ilse Blank, Associate, Deloitte

Tom has great presence, fantastic day, was reminded of what we knew, but the big transition is how to execute. Cannot wait to share some of the big issues with my colleagues. We are leaders and should be proud of it.
Debbie Fisher, Head of Department, Liberty Life

I am reminded of my job description as a leader. A wealth of knowledge gained for the empowerment of all that I will impact on in my life going forward, personal and career wise.
Lebogang Mokwele, Senior Manager Public Sector, The Courier & Freight

I found the event so classy and well organised. I have never seen promotional material as impressive. The workbook is mind blowing. The cards a great touch. Altogether I feel that I have joined the dream team.
Leonard Carr, Leonard Carr Consulting

A great speaker. Presentation was both informative and humorous (sic). Not having a sense of anticipation beforehand in terms of the content meant I was enlightened & entertained at the same time.
Sharon Pereira, Head of Service, First National Bank

A well-presented knowledge sharing session a day is not enough to do justice to a great man. Well done Tom Peters!
Linesh Harpal, Regional Sales Manager, Courier & Freight

If I could implement at least 25% of the concepts into our organisation, we would make a huge difference in the performance of the company.
Mustafa Sachak, Chief Executive, Zimnat

Should have had some of my management team also attend.
Peter Harland, Managing Director, TSB Quality Sugar

Tom knitted together management concepts/responsibilities in a refreshing and provocative manner. He was excellent – through his approach and content – in retrieving many important files. That somehow had gone to rest/dormant in the dark corners of my mind. Glad I awoke!
Nash Lutchman, Group Manager, Gold Fields Limited

Wow! What a passionate, energetic and inspiring speaker. It is clear we are all facing similar challenges. Presentation done in a very motivating way. Thanks!
